This video gives you some information about the ancient town of Hazor. You will get to see a little bit of what remains of the town after many years. You will also be able to see some ruins of what looks like a pagan temple with a place for burnt offerings, and a high place which may have been used for pagan worship, although Hazer is also associated with Solomon’s temple for God.
It is mentioned a few times in the Bible “When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this( please read Joshua chapter ten for more details), he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Akshaph, and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west; to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah. They came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots—a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore. All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom to fight against Israel.” Joshua 11:1-5
“At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword. (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.) Everyone in it they put to the sword. They totally destroyed them, not sparing anyone that breathed, and he burned Hazor itself. Joshua took all these royal cities and their kings and put them to the sword. He totally destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.” Joshua 11:10-12.
Regarding the time of Solomon it says, “Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the Lord’s temple, his own palace, the terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer.” 1 Kings 9:15 It is interesting how easy it is to notice the misdeeds of those we consider the bad guys and glaze over the questionable methods used by those we label as good for what we deem to be a good purpose. People and circumstances are complex and it is good to learn that from history and not be too quick to judge everyone as either wholly good or bad if we can’t honestly do so instead of trying to justify it, while trying to do better ourselves. It is good to watch educational videos that help us learn about the past.
