Christian Teacher Saving Lives of Jews in the Holocaust

The place was Budapest Hungary, in 1938. Jewish people were rounded up like sheep to the slaughter for the capital crime of being Jewish. Millions were executed in Nazi concentration camps. This was better known as the Holocaust.

Through this hell on earth experience, there were unsung heroes, some of them will never be known. There is one, who in this video, went through extraordinary measures to protect the lives of her students, at an all-girl’s school in Budapest, Hungary. Her precious name was Jane Mathison Haining (June 6, 1897-July17, 1944.) She was a Scottish missionary teacher for the Church of Scotland in Budapest. As tensions grew, she was admonished to return to Britain after the outbreak of WWII. However, she preferred to remain with her students in Budapest, many of whom were Jewish. She kept the hatred from penetrating their classroom walls, not distinguishing the Jewish students from the non-Jewish students.

Her gripping story will move and enlighten you for her heroic actions as the city of Budapest was infiltrated by the Gestapo throughout the city, Hungarian countryside and other surrounding European nations. What she did in the face of pure evil lives on through the generations of Holocaust survivors who lived because of her selfless acts to protect the children under her careful charge. Get a tissue first before watching this love story of a true friend of the Jews during the most frightful and tragic events of the Nazi reign.

In 1997 she was recognized and honored as “Righteous Among the Nations” by Yad Vashem. Jane Haining was the only Scot to receive this designation.

On the October 7th 2023 the unprovoked attack on Israel by the terror organization Hamas, also a proxy terrorist group for Iran, causes us to face harsh realities about current antisemitism world-wide. Are things that much better today than in Europe in 1938?

Watching the nightly news one might think we are in Nazi Europe during the Holocaust as antisemitism is on the rise and continues to this very day. We see college campuses protesting Israel for human rights violations in so-called Palestine, crowds burning both the Israeli and American flags while donning masks. Additionally, the harassment of innocent Jewish students just trying to go to their classes is particularly meant to be cruel. They fear for their lives, their hearts beating loud enough to hear it as the fear often leaves them barricading in safe places from the hordes of protestors who want to cause bodily harm, who scream hateful words with obvious shades of the reborn Jewish hatred by “the educated elites and their educators”.  With astounding ignorance, no knowledge of the truth, not scripturally and not historically nor geographically is found among them. Some allege that Nazi Germany never really existed, nor the Nazi concentration camps and the atrocities that did occur throughout Europe, with millions who were slaughtered just for being Jewish. It is past time for all of us to ponder if this is where we want to be and if not, to stop this hatred as it is a national curse to the good people of Israel and a black eye on America’s institutions of higher learning and beyond in countries world-wide.
