I was watching the video “Rare Ancient Sarcophagus Discovered in Israel.” I don’t think I would have known this was a sarcophagus at first glance, would you?
I have only seen a few when studying history like King Tuts’, and his was definitely spectacular to see. He was a king after all. This coffin seems to be a Roman man, but they don’t tell us who he is, only what he looks like.
This was 9 years ago when it was discovered, so I wondered if any more had been found recently. The answer is Yes! Two years ago, they found one by accident. They indicated that it had been 50 years since an anthropoidal Human-shaped coffin had been found. I found this interesting because in the “Rare Ancient Sarcophagus Discovered in Israel” video you see that the sarcophagus is not human shape but square. It is ornate with carvings on all sides with the carving of a person on the lid.
Why was this different? It was rare. I don’t know if that piqued your interest like mine, but I’ll have to do some more digging to find out what makes them different since they were both found in Israel. I also wanted to know if there was biblical significance of where this coffin had been found, the Israeli city of Ashkelon. It seems to have been part of biblical history. This is what I love about the bible; it all comes back to the bible and has the answers to all of life's questions.
