Seal of Isaiah Found in Jerusalem

Seal of Isaiah Found in Jerusalem

A clay seal with the name Isaiah on it was found just 10 feet away from where a seal of King Hezekiah was found only 3 years ago. The seals were found just to the south of the steps that lead to the entrance to the temple that Solomon built.

The seal clearly has the name Isaiah followed by three of the four letters of the word prophet making it a good possibility that it said prophet Isaiah (or as it would be written in Hebrew Isaiah prophet).

The seal was found by a team lead by Hebrew University archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar.

The prophet Isaiah and King Hezekiah are recorded in the Bible as meeting and speaking together throughout the king’s reign. Events regarding the life of King Hezekiah are recorded in the bible book called Isaiah. And in the books 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles, where the record of the life of King Hezekiah is found, there are references to the prophet Isaiah. Thus it is very appropriate that the two seals would be found so close to each other, thus helping confirm that this seal of Isaiah is the seal of the prophet Isaiah.

The scroll of Isaiah is the only Bible book found fully in tact among the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Isaiah scroll is on display in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. In addition to writing about King Hezekiah, Isaiah is famously known for writing the 52nd and 53rd chapters of his scroll as well as chapter 7:14 & 9:6,7 among other things. Those texts say:
“Behold, My Servant…He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. …His visage was marred more than any man… He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant… He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed…the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment… He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgressions of My people He was stricken… they made His grave with the wicked— but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth. it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

“unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah was speaking directly to King Hezekiah father Ahaz when he said: “The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

Many people see these as prophecies of Y’shua the Messiah.
