The Oldest Glassworks Ever Found in Israel

In this video you will learn about an ancient glass making site that was discovered in Isreal.  A friend took me glass making once, not in Israel, but it was a very enjoyable experience and it is interesting to think about how people made glass back in ancient times.

It didn’t occur to me to give much thought about how old the practice of glass making was in certain parts of the world. This particular glass making site was said to have been a supplier of glass around the 4th century AD. As you watch the video you will get to learn more about the site and why its discovery is considered to be so important to the Israel Antiquities Authority.

I think it can be easy to take glass for granted as it is such a common thing. Glass windows can give us the pleasure of looking outside to enjoy nature or even to simply check what is going on out there without getting wet and cold. On top of that glass windows give homes so much free light from the sun which is so easy to take for granted. Glass lids for pots and pans can let us know how close our food is to being finished without slowing down the cooking process by losing heat to lift the lid. Glass cups can easily reflect how much of anything is left inside. And of course, people who don’t have the best eyesight can definitely appreciate the ability to wear eyeglasses today.

What are some other things in life you benefit from every day that you might be taking for granted? Seriously, how often do we look right through our blessings the way we look through glass without stopping to really acknowledge how blessed we are?  There are many things around us every day that we might not feel as thankful for as we should because we just take them for granted. But it is good to take the time to be grateful by reflecting on the many things that enrich our lives that are easy to overlook.
