More Lessons in Manna

Bread has a lot of spiritual lessons for us.

The Torah says. “Remember that for 40 years the Lord your God led you on your journey in the desert. He did this in order to humble you and test you. He wanted to know whether or not you would wholeheartedly obey his commands. So he made you suffer from hunger and then fed you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had seen before. He did this to teach you that a person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that the Lord speaks.” Deuteronomy 8:2-3.

Yeshua said “‘I am the living bread that has come down from heaven; if anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. Furthermore, the bread that I will give is my own flesh; and I will give it for the life of the world.’” John 6:51. Yeshua also warned “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who does what my Father in heaven wants.” Matthew 7:21.

Just as is important to eat physical food it is important to eat spiritual food. But sometimes we as believers do not know how to do that. We think listening to someone else prepare or deliver a sermon, or looking the words written in the Torah is the same as eating the word. But it is not. Just as it is not sufficient to listen, smell, or watch someone else or even yourself cook to prevent starvation it is not enough to be immersed with the things of God to prevent spiritual starvation. Unless the food gets within becomes a part of you through consumption you will starve and the same is true spiritually.

Regardless as to how familiar you are with what the Bible says or God is like if your relationship with God stopped there you will die spiritually. We need to allow God to actually become a part of us, not just in knowledge but a part of our very being by asking God inside of our hearts to change who we are as people and transform us. Without an inner change any knowledge we have of God is worthless. Let us pray “Create a clean heart for me, God; put a new, faithful spirit deep inside me!” Psalm 51:10 And we can know God will answer “I will give them a single heart, and I will put a new spirit in them. I will remove the stony hearts from their bodies and give them hearts of flesh so that they may follow my regulations and carefully observe my case laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.” Ezekiel 11:19-20
