Posted in 2013, this video gives viewers the opportunity to reflect back on the last decade’s technological achievements, in the light of current trends.

The narrator namedrops a number of IT technologies from the 2000s and 2010s and shares a number of outlooks thought to seed successful startups, including: boldness, questioning, diversification, and risk-taking.

Viewers might compare and contrast this video snapshot from 2013 with other innovation and startup metrics, as charted over time and across regions.

For example, the Global Innovation Index (GII) has measured innovation since 2007. GII tracks some 80 innovation indicators in around 132 countries each year, and rankings naturally vary from year to year, due to a variety of factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2023).

This 2013 video emphasizes military training and experience as factors in successful IT startups.

Higher education also offers training and experience useful for startups, across sectors from agriculture to medicine, from chemistry to transportation.

For example, in 2009 Dr. Ada Yonath, Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan, and Dr. Thomas A. Steitz won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Dr. Yonath was the first Israeli woman to win the prize, and is one of 10 Israeli prize laureates. Find a full list of Nobel laureates here.
