Israel's Independence Day

Israel's Independence Day

Out of the tears of the Shoah God birthed the modern nation of Israel. On May 14, 1948 David Ben-Gurion proclaimed Israel an independent nation. Israel's Independence Day, Yom Ha-Atzmaut, is celebrated each year on the fifth day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. In 1897, Theodor Herzl called together the first Zionist Congress in Basle, Switzerland to promote the idea of the Jewish people having their own country in the land of Israel.

As soon as independence was declared, seven Arab nations attacked Israel bent on its destruction and annihilation. Miraculously Israel won the war.  Two other major, miraculous victories when several countries attacked Israel are the Six-Day war of 1967 and the Yom Kippur war of 1973. During the Six-Day war Jerusalem was liberated and Jewish people are now allowed to pray at the Western Wall.
