Operation Solomon 1991

This is an educational video about Operation Solomon which took place in 1991 during which Isreal helped Ethiopian Jews leave the country due to a civil war (Operation Solomon | The Jewish Agency - U.S.). It shows Americans providing support at Isreal’s embassy in the Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa for the project. Some of the tasks included making sure the families were together and taking their money - apparently due to some sort of legal agreement that prevented the Ethiopian Jews from taking the local currency out of the country with them.

I know the video was taken a long time ago but it was still shocking to see people using a paper checklist to manually keep track of the families that were trying to get to Israel. That is a lot of pressure. If someone got distracted or spilled a drink on that paperwork that could have been a great loss. The video also showed how some people put on layers of clothing despite the heat as a way of bringing extra things with them because there would be no room for personal belongings in a bag during the trip, which meant people had to be willing to leave things behind. I found it interesting that the video said that a sticker on the head would be used to determine which bus people used to get to the airport.

This story reminded me of a spiritual war that is a life and death situation and how we need to be willing to let our old life go. “Next the angel showed me the river of the water of life, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Between the main street and the river was the Tree of Life producing twelve kinds of fruit, a different kind every month; and the leaves of the tree were for healing the nations—no longer will there be any curses. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.  Night will no longer exist, so they will need neither the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because Adonai, God, will shine upon them. And they will reign as kings forever and ever.” Revelation 22:1-5

Those who are marked by God on their foreheads, which reflects the commitments they have made to the Lord in their minds, will be spared from the pain and suffering in the next life even if they are not in this one. The things the world sees as vital currency, like impressive titles and positions, while nice are not the sort of things we can find our core worth in if we want to live with God. And spiritually if we are going to wear anything, we should wear Yeshua’s righteousness even if it is uncomfortable in the climate of this world, because that is what we can take with us.
