Aliyah from Ethiopia

 

The Jewish Agency for Israel helps the Addis family to make Aliyah to Israel from their village in Gojam, Ethiopia.  

Adane Tadele, who heads the Jewish Agency delegation in Gondar Ethiopia, relates the difficulties faced by families in Ethiopia who are waiting for permission to emigrate.  He also speaks to the work that is being done within Israel to assimilate Ethiopian Jews into society.

          To ‘make Aliyah’ was originally defined as “the act of going up [to Jerusalem]”, but is now understood to mean one is in the process of emigrating to Israel from another country.
