Trying to Fit

Trying to Fit

I have been very lucky in that there is a lot of flexibility regarding what I can wear to work.

It is pretty casual so I am free to wear jeans if I want to, but I still try to look presentable and to wear nice shoes to work instead of my regular walking shoes used for yard work so I didn’t look too causal with management. But dressy shoes don’t always feel very nice to keep on. So while sitting at my desk I would sometimes slip my shoes off while working and slip them back on while going to lunch and break. But while trying to put my shoes on without looking as usual I started to panic a bit. I couldn’t figure out why but I wasn’t able to put my shoes back  on with the ease I expected.

I tried and tried to force the shoe to fit on the foot I thought it should be on but when I finally looked down I discovered the problem. I was needlessly freaking out about how I was going to walk around work without shoes in front of everyone when the whole time I was trying to put my shoe on the wrong foot. The shoes I thought were placed next to the appropriate feet where not placed as I assumed. What I actually should have been concerned about was if I was able to get the shoe to fit on the foot I was trying so hard to discreetly put it on.

I think sometimes during life we do the same thing. Maybe we are pushed to make changes because we are uncomfortable in life and want to give ourselves relief-which isn’t bad. But we do not have the perspective of God to see the whole situation as to how to best go about making an adjustment when it is time to make a change in our lives. So in our blindness we can try our hardest to force life decisions to fit into our lives that won’t work while, God knows the whole time that if we were not relying on our own assumptions and were willing to see things from God’s perspective we would actually be happy that what we want to work doesn’t.

Don’t try to make someone who doesn’t fit into your life your spouse. Don’t try to blindly push yourself into a position at work or a new place to live without asking God about it. Look at God’s word and pray for enlightenment to see clearly what you are meant to do. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12. We can waste a lot of our lives and put ourselves though needless stress by assuming what we think should work will and trying to force our plans to succeed when our plans are not actually good for us. Look to God and stop assuming we know best where our feet should be. Let us remember the words of David. “I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.” Psalm 119:59 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
