Steve McConnell wrote the song below based on the premises in Deuteronomy 16 that Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, is an annual time of rejoicing each year on the 15th day of Tishrei. It is not an uncommon song for women to dance to at Sukkot services throughout the country today.

The new year has come, the day of atonement has passed, and the sins we have repented of have been washed away and cleansed from our lives. It is a time of gathering the harvest for the year and all the Lord has blessed us with agriculturally in the fields. This is a time that also commemorates the nomadic temporary shelters the Children of Israel lived in during the forty years in the wilderness to protect them from the harsh desert climate. Sukkot was one of the three pilgrimage feasts where the citizens of ancient Jerusalem made a trip to the Temple.

Lyrics are posted below.

“Chag haSukkot Hazeh
Z'man simchatenu

This is the time of our rejoicing
Z'man simchatenu
This is the time of our rejoicing
Z'man simchatenu

Baruch ata Adonai Eloheinu
Melech haOlam, shehecheyanu
V'kiyemanu, v'hegianu lazman hazeh

Halleluyah, Sukkot has come, halleluyah”
Halleluyah, Sukkot has come, halleluyah”
