An ivory comb dating back to 1700 BCE was found inscribed with a plea to eradicate lice, in the first written example of a Canaanite language found in Israel, revealing new clues in the development of the modern Hebrew alphabet.

It was found at Tel Lachish in southern Israel. It was discovered by a team from Hebrew University and Southern Adventist University in Tennessee.
